Malta Cycling Federation - Flimkien nahdmu ghal-toroq b'inqas periklu
Waqt konferenza stampa msejjha mil-Federazzjoni Maltija tac-ciklizmu, il-President is-Sur John Zammit ghamel appell biex, wara l-avvenimenti tragici li ghaddha minnhom dan l-ahhar l-isport Malti, b’mod partikolari bit-telfa tas-Segretarju ta’ l-istess Federazzjoni is-Sur Clifford Micallef, ghandu jsir kull sforz biex l-entitajiet koncernati kollha jinghaqdu biex, bl-aktar mod effettiv, iniedu, u iventwalment iwettqu, kampannja edukattiva u informattiva ghal kull min juza t-toroq ta’ pajjizna, specjalment is-sewwieqa tal-vetturi.
Is-Sur Zammit beda billi irringrazzja lil dawk kollha li b’xi mod jew iehor wrew solidarjeta’ mal-familja Micallef u mal-Federazzjoni wara t-telfa tragika tas-Sur Micallef. Huwa tkellem dwar l-attivitajiet li l-Federazzjoni torganizza, b’mod partikolari mal-Kunsill Malti ghall-Isport, indirizzati lejn iz-zghazagh, biex dawn juzaw ir-rota bl-ahjar mod possibli u minghajr periklu. Dawn il-programmi kienu f’idejn il-mibki Clifford Micallef, li kien wkoll parti mid-delegazzjoni tal-Federazzjoni li dan l-ahhar iffirmatt il-European Road Safety Charter. Bil-ghan li tkabbar l-uzu tar-rota, il-Federazzjoni torganizza wkoll numru ta’ bike rides matul is-sena li ghalihom jattendu persuni ta’ kull eta’. Is-Sur Zammit qal li l-Federazzjoni tieghu izzomm kuntatt kontinwu ma’ l-awtoritajiet koncernati fil-Korp tal-Pulizija, u fahhar kemm dawn ta’ l-ahhar dejjem kienu ta’ ghajnuna b’mod partikolari fejn jidhol l-eghluq tat-toroq ghall-kompetizzjonijiet nazzjonali. Huwa kompla qal li c-ciklisti kollha registrati mal-Federazzjoni saritilom polza tas-sigurta’. Kien hawnhekk fejn issuggerixxa li l-persuni kollha li juzaw ir-rota ghandhom jirregistraw mal-Federazzjoni biex b’hekk tkun tista’ tinzamm statistika u biex il-Federazzjoni tkun tista’ tilhaq lil kull ciklist bid-direttivi li tohrog minn zmien ghal zmien.
Sa dan it-tant, il-Federazzjoni Maltija tac-ciklizmu ghamlet diversi rapprezentazzjonijiet ma’ l-awtoritajiet governattivi koncernati fuq diversi punti konnessi mac-ciklizmu. Filwaqt li l-Federazzjoni talbet li tkun konsultata fejn jidhlu decizjonijiet konnessi ma’ l-uzu tat-toroq mic-ciklisti, ghamlet zewg talbiet biex ikunu provduti postijiet adekwati ghac-ciklizmu minghajr periklu u taht sorveljanza professjonali. Dawn huma rotta diga ezistenti go Pembroke li jinhtegila manutenzjoni, u post maghluq ghat-tfal zghar li jipprattikaw l-isport tal-BMX.
Filwaqt li semma’ n-nuqqasijiet li xi ciklisti jistghu jwettqu meta jkunu fit-triq, huwa emfasizza n-nuqqas serju ta’ dixxiplina li ghandhom numru ta’ sewwieqa tal-vetturi. Is-Sur Zammit qal li huwa hazin hafna li dawn ta’ l-ahhar jahsbu li t-toroq huma taghhom biss u li huma biss ghandhom l-unika dritt li juzawhom. Huwa evidenti hafna n-nuqqas ta’ rispett li jintwera lejn kull min juza r-rota, u ghalhekk qal li issa huwa z-zmien li jsiru regolamenti biex jindirizzaw dawn il-problemi. Huwa ghalaq l-indirizz tieghu billi appella lil kulhadd biex juza l-prudenza u d-dixxiplina fit-toroq taghna bil-ghan li jkunu evitati kull tip ta’ incidenti li jista’ jkollhom konsegwenzi mil-aktar gravi.
Minbarra mil-President tal-Federazzjoni Maltija tac-ciklizmu, indirizzaw il-konferenza stampa wkoll is-Sur J. Lafranco, ex-President tal-Federazzjoni ghal hafna snin, is-Supretendent tal-Pulizija is-Sur Ray Zammit, kif wkoll is-Sur Max Micallef li huwa t-tifel ta’ Clifford Micallef. Attendew wkoll ghal din il-konferenza rapprezentanti tal-Kunsill Malti ghall-Isport u tal-Kumitat Olimpiku Malti, rapprezentanti ta’ l-Ghaqdiet affiljati mal-Federazzjoni, kif wkoll rapprezentanti minn diversi federazzjonijiet u ghaqdiet ohra fostom il-Malta Triathlon Association u l-Federazzjoni Maltija tal-Motor Sport.
